A Letter From The Executive Director

Spring 2018

Print Spring 2018 Newsletter

On behalf of the Staff and Board of Directors we would like to invite you to explore the many ways we are providing safe, stable, and nurturing homes to children in northwest North Carolina.

As part of our efforts to increase awareness and recognition among the community we serve, as of April 1, 2018 SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) became The Parenting PATH. Our branding: The Parenting PATH - Positive Actions, Thriving Homes, aims to support the mission of the agency by promoting healthy and substantive actions to educate families and ultimately prevent child abuse and neglect. We are excited about this new chapter and the positive momentum we have moving our programs forward.

In addition to unveiling our new identity we celebrated April as Child Abuse Prevention Month with an amazing line-up of events. Highlights included hosting “Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope” at a/perture and our sold out Pinwheel Gala. Amazing things are taking place as we enter into the summer months.

Like us on Facebook @The Parenting PATH and Follow us on Instagram @theparentingpath, and let us know how we're doing.

Client Spotlight:

Your support of The Parenting PATH changes lives. Susan, a mother of two, was verbally and physically abused by her husband. Concerned for her children’s mental and physical well being, Susan fled and ended up living in her car with her two young children. Determined to find support, she made a call to the The Parenting PATH where your donations provided her with a Parent Aide home visitor.

Through your generosity, Susan was able to secure housing as her Parent Aide home visitor helped her navigate local resources. With your help, she was able to learn problem solving, stress management and parenting skills. Your support of The Parenting PATH helped her address concerns related to transportation and childcare. Thanks to you, Susan is now employed and she and her children are in an apartment of their own. Susan reports that she is “happy, secure, and at peace” because she and her children can now sleep in their own beds thanks to the incredible supporters of The Parenting PATH.

2018 Pinwheel Gala A Success!

Our 6th Annual Pinwheel Gala was held Friday, April 13th at the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts. With a sell out crowd of 300 attendees, this year's event was a HUGE success. The evening would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors and the many individuals who attended. Thanks to your help we raised $60,000 for our programs and mission to end and prevent child abuse in our community.

Special Thank You To All Of Our Generous Sponsors!

Building Updates!

April brought more than just name changes to The Parenting PATH in the form of a brand new kitchen! A generous donation from Camel City Cabinetry and Amanzi Marble brought new life to our teaching kitchen. This upgrade will continue to allow us to provide meals during many of our classes, increasing the fellowship that our clients receive while improving many of their parenting and communication skills.
