6th Annual "Battle of the Bowls"
Chicken Stew Cook-Off

October 15, 2016 4-6pm
Kernersville Farmers Market

Update and thanks! Thanks Cecily Hooks for organizing this awesome fall fundraiser for SCAN and the families we serve. The Exchange Club of Greater Winston-Salem helped with the sponsorship. There was judging of six chicken stews. Michael Hastings, food editor of the W-S Journal and SCAN interim Executive Director George Bryan, were some of the judges. There was a band and wonderful homemade carrot cake. Great weather! (A spicy chicken stew won the day!) Shoney Boy Stew Crew led by Greg Spaulding, stepped up to the plate adding deserts made by his Mother and other family members and a raffle. He won Judges Best Traditional Stew, Best Booth Presentation and Peoples Choice which is the major fund raising award. Congratulation to his crew and family for receiving their first " clean sweep"!

Join us for the Roger Lee Willis Memorial 6th Annual Chicken Stew Cook-Off "Battle of the Bowls" to benefit SCAN. "Friends of SCAN" is issuing a challenge to all cooks in the Triad area. Categories include judge's choice: freestyle, "old fashioned," most creative presentation and people's choice.

George Bryan Announced As New Executive Director

June 2, 2016

Jennifer L. Martin, Board Chair of Exchange SCAN, announced that George Bryan would begin serving as interim Executive Director on August 1, 2016. Cynthia Napoleon-Hanger recently announced she is retiring after serving for 10 years as Executive Director and serving the agency for 25 years. The agency expanded programming during these years and developed new initiatives in new counties in North Carolina. Cynthia's selfless leadership and forward thinking helped the agency transform into a modern non-profit while still focusing on core values and services for the children in our community. Chair Martin commented, "As an agency are especially grateful for her tireless and successful pursuit of funding opportunities to expand the services children in need deserved."

The Board of Directors recruited Mr. Bryan to help with the transition phase to new leadership. Mr. Bryan served as the founding Director of Exchange/SCAN starting in 1981 and most recently was CEO of The Children's Home in North Carolina and has spent recent years serving our local and state communities by serving on several non-profit boards that focused his efforts in a variety of arenas. Mr. Bryan has published numerous pieces on child abuse issues, spoken nationally and statewide, continued research, all while serving in leadership of Forsyth County's Community Child Protection Team, Chairing the N.C. Exchange Club Child Abuse Foundation, serving on the Advisory Board of N.C. Statewide Community Child Protection Team and serving on national committees.

The Board looks forward to the leadership of Mr. Bryan and continuing to deliver quality services to families in N.C. Currently Exchange/SCAN offers over 20 different programs in 16 counties in N.C. to strengthen families.
